What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a cutting-edge, non-invasive, and drug-free method for self-regulating brainwave activity, teaching the brain to function in a more balanced and healthful way. By utilizing real-time monitoring of brainwave activity and providing immediate feedback through visual or auditory cues, neurofeedback empowers individuals to fine-tune and enhance their brainwave patterns. Through this process, individuals can improve imbalances impacting mood, emotional regulation, focus, concentration, learning, memory, and more. With just five treatments I have seen improvement in my son. He tells me his anxiety is down and he is able to drive, which used to be very hard for him. The staff has been great. We appreciate the sincere interest of Roseann and her passion for helping others. I highly recommend Wasatch Neurotherapy.

Roseann is amazing to work with, I can tell she genuinely cares about every one of her clients. she goes above and beyond, making you feel heard, and seen and cared for. Neurotherapy itself has been life changing for me. Before training, I had a lot of issues from past trauma like PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety and depression and now after training for a few years all those issues have gone away almost completely. From a daily struggle to now only on occasion.

I was skeptical, but after my son had just two sessions there was a noticeable difference in his behaviors. His response to our boundaries and conflict has improved so much already, i can hardly believe it. He is hyperactive with many sensory issues. He wore a suit on Sunday and that was a miracle in itself! All of the staff have been very kind and caring. Highly recommend their office!

Working with Roseann doing neuro feedback has been the biggest blessing in my life! I struggled with social anxiety and depression for a long time until finding Roseann. The brain training has changed how I am able to cope in social situations, and has improved my mood tremendously. Roseann created a space where I always felt comfortable and cared about. She is truly the best and I would recommend her business to anyone who is struggling with mental health!

Roseann at Wasatch Neurotherapy is truly amazing!!! She is extraordinarily calm, kind, and patient, while at the same time she is highly competent and an expert at what she does. When dealing with mental health issues, this is especially valuable. I brought my son to her for Neurofeedback and she was excellent at calming his anxiety. I was shocked at how well he was able to sit still, and I know that Roseann’s demeanor and bedside manner was definitely the reason! I am very grateful that I have found her and Wasatch Neurotherapy, and I am so excited to continue working with her!

This place is amazing. I am autistic and have ADHD, and in 2021, my mom noticed that I was struggling with focus and needed some help, so she started looking for a neurologist office that was in the area and that knew how to help me. This place was probably one of the first results that met both of her search criteria. Plus, it cut the usual cost of $350 in half so that it was only $175. So, I started attending neurotherapy here at Wasatch Neurotherapy.I love Roseann. She's kind to other people. But a little while after I started, her first assistant, Addie, who was a high-school senior, started a part-time job here. (I said part-time because Addie had school.)Mom noticed how much this helped me, so she put my brother Darius in neurotherapy as well. Darius is in basically the same condition as me, except that he has depression and is more of an introvert than I am, and after a couple weeks, he started driving the two of us to our neurotherapy sessions, which were in Bountiful at the time and were put at exactly the same times on exactly the same three days of each week. After less than a year, we had to quit because even with the cut cost, we were using up what was left of our dad's monthly paycheck, and Dad is the only person in my house who has a job and is over the age of 40.But after about six months, Mom noticed a big change in my focus and behavior that was influenced by our not coming to neurotherapy sessions. She quickly scheduled Darius and me for a returning appointment here. Darius quit a second time, this time due to his own job, way before I did, and I am still in attendance. But had we not been able to come to our returning appointment, I would not have met two of Roseann's other assistants, Sadie and Nicole, when I did!

My eight year old has been receiving Neurotherapy from Roseann for about 26 sessions now. Around session 17, we saw the beginnings of great improvement with some of the behavioral issues, ability to focus, and listening skills. Roseann is very knowledgeable, down to earth, friendly, and is very involved in creating a personalized Neurotherapy plan based on the results we are seeing and what her software says would be helpful. We are in it for the entire treatment plan and are very happy with the care, help, and healing that has been occurring now for these past few months. I knew after my first phone call with Roseann that this place would greatly benefit my child and I’m happy to make the commute to go.

We are also happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Some insurance plans will cover neurofeedback within certain parameters. It can be difficult, but it is possible to be reimbursed.

Reimbursement to the client varies by insurance company and plan. Check with your insurance provider directly for details. Regardless of insurance reimbursement, payment is due at the time of service.

What do I ask my insurance provider?

Questions to ask your insurance provider

1. Is biofeedback a covered benefit under my insurance policy?

2. If yes, is it covered under Medical Services or Psychological Services?

3. For which diagnosis is it covered?

4. Under which code(s) is it covered?

5. Do I need a prescription or letter from my medical doctor to say that it is medically necessary?

6. Do I need a referral from my primary care physician?

7. Will I need preauthorization? If so, what is the preauthorization code?

8. How many sessions are allowed (per week or per year) and is there a dollar amount limit?

9. Is there a deductible? If so, what is it and how much of the deductible has been met?

10. Is there a co pay? If so, what is it?

11. Is there a limit to the total amount the insurance company will reimburse each year? Is there an annual benefits cap that could affect the amount of my reimbursement?

What are the insurance CPT codes?

When contacting your insurance provider, make sure you understand what your insurance policy will cover, and for which diagnoses. You can ask your insurance carrier for coverage of certain CPT (Current Procedure Terminology) codes.

QEEG (BRAIN MAP): 95816, 95957, and 96132

95816 refers to the qEEG recording, 95957 refers to the digital analysis of the recording (eliminating artifact and comparing to the database), and 96132 refers to the evaluation of the recording and accompanying report by the provider.

BIOFEEDBACK AND NEUROFEEDBACK: 90901

90901 is used for psychological disorders, such as: Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder.

What if my insurance will reimburse me?

If you are told that neurofeedback is covered, be certain to document the name of the insurance representative with whom you spoke and the date and time of your conversation. This information will be needed in the event of any misunderstandings regarding coverage or any reimbursement refusals by your insurance carrier.

Make sure you understand what your insurance policy will cover, and for which diagnoses. If your insurance is going to reimburse you, contact us for a superbill to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

What is a QEEG Brain Mapping?

A Quantitative Electroencephalogram (QEEG) is a state-of-the-art brain mapping tool that provides valuable insights into your brain’s functioning. It’s a non-invasive, painless, and highly informative assessment. Our assessment includes expert analysis by a certified neurofeedback specialist, a tailored neurofeedback training plan, and your 1st neurofeedback brain training session.

How many sessions will I need?

Since everyone’s brains function differently, it depends on the qEEG and how quickly your brain responds to neurofeedback. We typically recommend a minimum of 20 sessions, but often clients have long-lasting changes after 40 sessions.

How many times a week do I come in?

Neurofeedback requires consistent commitment, ideally involving sessions 2-3 times per week. Our recommended frequency serves the purpose of training and reinforcing new neural pathways. This approach aims to solidify these pathways, allowing positive connections to strengthen and negative neural associations to be broken.

How long are the sessions typically?

A session lasts between a half-hour and an hour. We can start neurofeedback sessions at 20 minutes and then work up to 40 minutes.

Is it going to hurt, will I feel anything?

There is no pain involved in neurofeedback. The sensors are non-stimulating and only read your brainwave activity.

How will I know if it's working?

The speed at which clients experience results can vary. While some may notice improvements in as few as 4 sessions, others might require 14 sessions or more before observing changes. For instance, a mother seeking neurofeedback for her child may perceive changes before the child feels any difference. Similarly, family members frequently report observing positive changes in their loved ones before clients notice these differences.

What is the minimum age requirement?

We typically like children to be at least four years old. However, if you have a child younger than this, please call, and we can discuss if neurofeedback is a good fit.

Are there research studies?

There are government-funded websites that will show research on neurofeedback brain training. Here is a very beneficial one. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

How long do the effects last?

Research consistently indicates that clients maintain their improvements from neurofeedback training for a long time, even up to 20 years. Several research studies have demonstrated that additional gains are even made after treatment is finished.
