About Neurotherapy

Wasatch Neurotherapy focuses on the relationship of the head and heart, enhancing the relationship of the brain and the autonomic nervous system, thereby facilitating a different reaction in the freeze/flight/fight response, promoting a greater awareness of one’s self and the choices often made unconsciously.

Neurofeedback often provides a more rapid as well as more effective clinical outcome than other, traditional types of therapy. Neurofeedback, sometimes known as EEG biofeedback or Neurotherapy, is a type of therapeutic treatment for your brain.

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that measures brain waves to produce a signal that can be used to teach self-regulation of brain activity. Moods, thoughts, feelings, as well as behaviors, have their own brainwave activity. Neurofeedback is the direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to work more efficiently. The brain controls your emotional well-being, psychological health, and every system in your body, therefore, training the brain to function better can have far-reaching as well as long-lasting benefits.

Neurofeedback training creates a default mode network that supports healthy regulation versus the dysregulated brain wave activity that is often associated with conditions such as ADHD/ADD, learning disabilities, autism, depression, anxiety, trauma, sleep disorders, pain, headaches, traumatic brain injury, along with many other concerns which can affect emotional as well as physical well-being.

Let’s talk about what symptoms you have and what services I provide that can help you.

Book Appointment

Once we know what you need we plan out your appointment to come in.

1st Session

I greet you happily, I can’t wait to get started and help your mind heal.

How many sessions?

At a minimum I recommend 2-3 sessions per week to see results and changes. Some cases will vary from symptom to symptoms.

Scheduling

Just like you I understand that life happens and things come up, I work with your ever changing schedule and ask for the same in return.

See you Soon

After a few months of treatments your mind is feeling better than ever and we finish our process as you go out into the world anew.

DETAILED PROCESS

1- This first step is calling, and we go over the concerns you have any pricing, and I answer any questions you have, or I will guide you to my website for more in-depth information. If interested and want to continue, I schedule you to come in for a qeeg.

2- I have an online portal. I will send over a link, and it is crucial to fill out the Profile, History, metabolic, and CEC (Cognitive emotion checklist). The information given will be used for your qEEG and report of findings. The CEC goes through symptoms you are experiencing, and then we compare it to focal sites of the brain to show how many of your symptoms are in line with the qEEG.

3- For your first appointment, I will use a cap with 19 EEG sensors, and we will perform the qeeg. Depending on the age and how challenging it might be for a toddler or child to sit still, I have the capability of choosing to do a 12 channel qeeg (brain map to lessen the time it takes to complete the qEEG. During this process, you sit still and try and be as calm as possible. I will need to get five recordings that are One minute long. We do this process with first eyes open and then with your eyes closed. Do not worry about washing your hair before this appointment because I use a conductive gel that will get your hair dirty. I recommend clients bring a hat or hair elastic to use after the qEEG is performed. Your qEEg is then uploaded to a database and compared to 100;s of thousands of qEEG, and the scan is compared to similarities from these scans and then sends me a report that we will go over in our next meeting.

4- In this next meeting, we begin to review the Report of Finding / Brain Map. The brain map will show different dysregulations throughout your brain. These are the definitions of what we review in this meeting.

Magnitude: This means how strong or weak brain waves are going to different locations of the brain.

Asymmetry: Brain wave patterns should be located in certain areas when they are dysregulated. It leads to many negative symptoms.

Dominant frequency: which is how fast and slow brain waves are processing.

Interconnectivity: is how fast or slow the left and the right hemisphere is speaking and processing information.

The report of findings will recommend protocols or areas of your brain that need to be regulated. The brain map also offers supplements that will help with supporting your brain and body functions. There is a narrative at the back of the report that I strongly suggest reading. It goes into great detail about The dysregulations in your map and areas of Executive functions you might be struggling in. The report of findings can be overwhelming, but I am always available to answer any further questions you might have after leaving the office. You will also receive a copy of the report of findings/Brain map report to take home and review.

5- I offer a free neurofeedback session because I believe everyone should experience the process before investing in a program. After we have gone over the report of findings, I program my neurofeedback machine for the protocol recommended for you. You then sit in a comfortable chair and pick a show or series from Netflix, Disney Plus, Youtube, or Amazon Prime. I will be offering different games that can be played shortly. I then place 1-4 sensors on your head using a conductive paste. The paste is easily removed with rubbing alcohol. The amount of sensors that are placed on your head depends on what protocols are recommended.

The sensors only read brainwave frequencies and are not stimulating or causing any harm. The sensors send your current brainwave activity to the computer. If you are in the correct brainwave frequency that we are training, the screen will stay bright, and the volume will be loud. When you are not in the brainwave frequency that we are training, the screen will be dim, and the volume will be quiet. Research shows that our brains are wired to want a reward, so your subconscious does most of the work. Artifacts can also create the screen to stay dim. Artifacts are when the sensors pick up too much muscle tension, moving, clenching your jaw, or blinking too much can create these artifacts. If the sensors begin to loosen after placement, that can cause artifacts, but I quickly fix them so they won’t disturb your session.

We begin training for 20 minutes and work our way up to 40 minutes. Everyone’s brains are different and can handle other training times. The goal is to create positive neural pathways and eliminate the negative neural pathways that are causing the negative symptoms you have been experiencing. After each session, you might feel relaxed or sleepy. This reaction lets me know that it was a great session, and the neuroplasticity or positive neural pathway is beginning to strengthen. Everyone’s brains are different, and the amount of sessions depends on how dysregulated your brain can be. Through the process, I will switch locations and protocols to regulate other areas of the brain. After 20 sessions, I recommend remapping this will show areas that have improved and give other protocols to work on next. As with learning a new skill, neurofeedback requires time. I recommend a minimum of two sessions a week, but if you are available to come three times a week, you will see results faster. Since everyone’s brains are different and more complex, it can be challenging to say how many sessions are needed, but after a qEEG, I will better understand how many sessions you will need.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please give me a call

How long are the sessions typically?

A session lasts between a half-hour and an hour. For example, I start neurofeedback sessions at 20 minutes and then work up to 40 minutes.

How many times a week do I come in?

Neurofeedback takes commitment. I like my clients to come 2-3 times a week. I have you come so often because we are training new neural pathways, and we want to strengthen the pathway so it will remain and the negative neural connection will be broken.

How many sessions will I need?

Since everyone’s brains function differently, it depends on the qEEG and how quickly your brain responds to neurofeedback. I typically recommend a minimum of 20 sessions, but often clients have permanent changes after 40 sessions.

Is it going to hurt? Or do I feel anything?

There is no pain involved in neurofeedback. The sensors are non-stimulating and only read your brainwave activity.

How old does my child have to be before beginning neurofeedback?

I typically like children to be at least four years old. However, if you have a child younger than this, please call, and we can discuss their symptoms and if neurofeedback is a good fit.

How will I know if it's working?

Some clients see results as soon as four sessions, while others won’t notice anything until 14 or longer. For example, suppose you are a mother looking for neurofeedback for your child. You might see the changes before they can feel a difference. Likewise, family members often tell me changes are taking place in their loved ones before my client can feel a difference.

Is there research that shows neurofeedback will help?

There are government-funded websites that will show research proving its ethics. Here is a very beneficial one. httpsss://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
